As I was a mom with one child with me, and other babies in the cradle, I worked 12 hours a day grinding floors and cutting off wallpaper. Ha! It was all falling into place, however it was not quite done. The project would require the time, energy, and of course my favourite shopping experience to complete the interior of this house. To keep my budget sound, I travelled with three of my boys to look for bargains at estate sales. It was our weekly routine to visit garage sales and auctions on the weekend, and buy a variety of pieces old and newly constructed. I'd spend my workdays at the end of the driveway, painting or sanding. The furniture I found looked like... This is the moment my love for restoring furniture started. I continued to work on furniture, even after having furnished our house. There was a spot in the market that I could sell my pieces. I was able to outgrow my space because I owned numerous pieces I needed. At home, I began hosting open houses in which more than 1000 guests could visit to purchase anything they wanted from the first floor over the course of a weekend. My company Growing Days began here. Alongside my flourishing business, I also had the pleasure of growing our family. There was a perfect balance between starting a new business and being a mother. Growing Days just seemed to work. The year was 2013, and my sweet daughter Nora joined our 4th baby. My business's direction was great, but I was forced to take some time off. I took a break from making vintage furniture, and I slowed down my speed and stayed at home to help my children. It was exactly what I needed at the moment. After a couple of months, the phone began to begin to. I was getting calls from people asking for help with the interior decoration and remodeling. The majority of them visited my home in my open houses for furniture. I started taking on some customers one by one going at my own pace however it wasn't long before I had multiple accounts and was running an entire home improvement business. If you'd told me that my venture would end up being the premise for a DIY Network show, I would probably have laughed. It's funny to think back to it.
